My Hiding Place, Oil Painting of Live Oak Tree by Judy Batterson, Florida Artist

There is something about a large oak tree that offers protection. If there is a way to climb up, a child will spend hours there, seeing the world from a different perspective. Mighty oaks from little acorns grow. 16x20" oil with textured oil gesso for bark on tree.

Daily Painting, Oil, Floral, 6x8", "Spring Pansies in the Park"

Don't you just love pansies?  They have to be one of my all time favorite flowers.

I found these cheerful beauties in a park in Asheville.

They brightened my day and I hope they do the same for you.

"Croton" by Florida Abstract Artist Fay Kelley

Croton by Florida Artist Fay Kelley. This 20" x 20" acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas is
my idea of true Fall colors. Florida does not have the colorful tree foliage. This painting
is my answer to the lack of Autumn colors.

He captured an image of this inquisitive blue jay.

I like the effect of this chunky black frame.  It really makes an impact on the wall and black frames always make color pop.

Have a great day and thanks for reading my blog today.

I created this small seascape from my memories of the beautiful beaches that surround us here in the state of Florida.

I painted with a brush and pallet knife to show texture in the waves rushing to shore and the sea oats rising above the protective dunes.

The more I travel, the more I am in awe of our beautiful world, including the beauty of my home state.  It is so easy to forget the beauty that surrounds you.  Take a moment today to find your beauty.

Tropical Landscape Painting, Daily Painting, "Golden Palm" by Carol Schiff, 16x20" Oil, SOLD

I was going through some of my old files, and found this tropical Landscape painting that I did several years ago.  I was in morning light, in an area covered with palmettos.  I was fascinated by the play of light on the palm fronds, forming beautiful abstract shapes.

Daily Painting, Seascape Painting, Ocean Painting, Beach Painting, "Celebrating Blue" 16x20x1.5" Oil

I wanted to do a seascape, or actually a beach painting, somewhere between an abstract and impressionism.  If this looks a little familiar, it is because I posted the study for this work a month or two ago.

Purchase here
495 + shipping

I wanted to record just my memories and impressions of trips to the beach.  I painted with a knife and tried to work quickly.

I tried not to think too much about the colors I was using or where I was putting them, but tried to keep it really instinctive.

I wanted plenty of texture in this piece.

It was a fun exercise, although I wish I had done a larger piece.  Maybe someday I will.

Flower Painting | Floral Still Life | Small Oil Painting | Rhododendron by Carol Schiff 6x8 Oil

Still painting flowers!  Hope you have not tired of them yet.  I will try to break up the flower posts with other subject matter, just to keep you awake.

$95 + 6.50

This petite bouquet of rhododendron blossoms grew next to my house in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  I snipped a few and placed them in a jelly jar on my kitchen window sill.  I love the effect of the darkened flowers with the bright light flowing in behind them.

My goal with these little works is to keep strong basic shapes and let the viewer's eye fill in missing pieces.  As you can see from this photo, the paint is thick and the strokes are few.

Happy Morning to you!

Stormy Landscape Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Coastal Collision II by Carol Schiff | 11x14x1.5 Oil

This stormy landscape painting is a scene I see most every afternoon in the summer, here in Florida.  The warm breezes blow across the state from the west and collide with the cool ocean breezes from the east.  Instant Storm!

I painted this in oil and using a palette knife to capture the feel of impending doom.  You know that feeling.....the black clouds suddenly roll in...the temperature drops 10 or 15 degrees in what seems like seconds and the wind kicks in.  Time to run for cover!

I painted on 11x14x1.5" canvas and painted the sides black making framing an option.
